Spelt seeding is COMPLETE!

Yesterday, seeding of 125 acres to spelt was completed.

Seeding started on May 20th and finished on May 25th.  Only four and a half days after the initial planting, little "spelts" started peeking thru the ground.  Last night, Mother Nature delivered a 1/4 inch of rain, so life is good!

Now, crop monitoring begins.

Check back weekly for updates.

Loading seed drill with spelt seed.
PictureGoing round and round!
The seed drill is a 7200 Case International (14 feet wide).   With this type of drill, seeding usually happens at slow speeds - around 4 mph.  That is a lot of round and round or back and forth!

Products applied by spray application (in mixing order):
  •  Organic Apple Cider Vinegar - to balance the pH of the water before mixing other ingredients
  • GSR Calcium - important building substance for plants
  • Organic Cane Sugar - provides food for the microbes in the soil, and also treats funguses and molds.  Keeps insects under control too.
  •  Soft Rock Phosphate - supplies  P2O5 - essential for healthy plant life.
  • Fish Hydrolysate - this stuff stinks!  But it provides essential trace elements, oil, and protein (nitrogen) to the soil.
  •  Microbial Tea - delivers microbes (soil builders) and nutrients.
Products were sourced from Back To Your Roots Soil Solution Inc.  ( www.back-to-your-roots.com )

Application services (picture above) were provided by the crew pictured in the photo on the right (Jim Staples - owner/operator of Moon Walker Custom Spraying, and Eldon Hamilton).  Some of the applied products can be difficult to dissolve in the water - especially the Soft Rock Phosphate, but Jim's sprayer had absolutely no difficulty and the spraying went very smoothly.  Yippee!!  God Bless Jim and Eldon!
Apologies to Jim about the fish smell.
